Key Highlights:
ZF has launched the next generation of its intelligent chassis sensor, expanding its capabilities beyond measuring wheel height. The upgraded Smart Chassis Sensor now also captures acceleration in three dimensions, enabling a new level of precision and functionality in vehicle dynamics and diagnostics.
Advanced Sensing for Smarter Vehicles
The enhanced sensor collects a broader range of data, opening doors to various intelligent features. These include:
Key Technology Behind Chassis 2.0
At the core of Chassis 2.0 is ZF’s vision of creating smarter, software-enabled systems that integrate smoothly across vehicle platforms. The next-gen Smart Chassis Sensor plays a critical role here, as it provides high-precision measurements needed to power such systems. By linking multiple sensors across the vehicle, even more advanced capabilities can be achieved through data networking and shared algorithms.
Real-Time Digital Health Monitoring
One of the standout functions is ZF Chassis Health, a digital monitoring system that tracks the condition of a vehicle’s chassis. The sensor continuously analyzes acceleration patterns and detects irregularities. For instance, it can identify chassis damage or component wear before it leads to serious problems.
It also alerts drivers when wheel nuts are loose, a safety risk that often arises after a tire change. When such a condition is detected, the driver is notified directly through the vehicle’s display, prompting timely action and reducing the risk of accidents.
Load Detection with Real-World Benefits
The Smart Chassis Sensor also introduces intelligent load detection. Using custom algorithms, it estimates the vehicle’s weight and alerts the driver if the maximum permissible load is exceeded. This helps in:
Integration with ZF Vehicle Systems
The sensor is designed to work hand-in-hand with various ZF technologies, such as:
Its ability to detect vibrations and road surface frequencies also enables active noise cancellation inside the cabin. The system uses this data to generate “anti-sound” via the vehicle’s speakers, significantly improving passenger comfort.
Innovative Design Built into Suspension
In terms of hardware, the Smart Chassis Sensor is embedded into a ball joint, a standard part in independent suspension systems. ZF has managed to fit measurement electronics directly into the ball stud, allowing precise tracking of wheel-to-body movement. This integration brings several advantages:
Already on the Road: Cadillac Celestiq
The first-generation Smart Chassis Sensor has already made its debut on the Cadillac Celestiq, where it is installed on all four wheels. With this second-generation version now available, ZF is setting a new benchmark in smart vehicle technology.

CMV360 Says
ZF’s latest Smart Chassis Sensor shows how vehicle technology is becoming smarter and more useful. It tracks movement in all three directions and helps monitor chassis health in real time. The sensor alerts drivers about loose wheel nuts, detects overloads, and even supports noise cancellation and steer-by-wire functions. This makes driving safer, more comfortable, and easier to manage, especially for electric and modern vehicles.
