Key Highlights:
India’s largest intercity electric bus brand, NueGo, has taken a big step toward building a skilled EV-ready workforce. The company has trained more than 3,000 coach captains (drivers) and 400 coach hosts through its dedicated electric vehicle training program aimed at preparing personnel for the future of green mobility.
Bridging the Skill Gap in E-Mobility
The training initiative was launched by GreenCell Mobility, the parent company of NueGo. It focuses on addressing the skills shortage in India’s rapidly growing electric transport segment. With more electric vehicles hitting the roads, trained staff are essential to ensure safe, smooth, and efficient operations.
NueGo currently runs over 300 electric buses connecting more than 100 cities across India. These buses can travel 250+ km on a single charge and go through 25 safety checks related to mechanical and electrical systems before every trip.
One-Week Comprehensive Training Program
New hires undergo a one-week training program designed to cover every aspect of driving and managing an electric bus. The curriculum includes 11 training modules, with 8 focused on defensive driving and 3 on customer experience and electric vehicle familiarisation.
The learning process combines:
Topics include regenerative braking, battery-efficient driving, charging protocol handling, and high-voltage system safety. Equally important, the training also sharpens soft skills like passenger interaction and customer service.
Ongoing Skill Development
The learning doesn’t stop after onboarding. NueGo requires all trained staff to go through refresher training every three months. These updates include practical assessments in handling blind spots, reversing safely, and tight-space parking.
The training is conducted by in-house EV experts at NueGo depots in cities like Delhi, Indore, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai. This ensures region-specific insights and consistent quality across all locations.
Backed by Eversource Capital’s Vision
GreenCell Mobility, which owns NueGo, is supported by Eversource Capital, known as one of India’s leading climate-focused investors. The company is building an Electric Mobility-as-a-Service (eMaaS) platform that not only focuses on shared travel but also includes charging infrastructure and tech solutions to drive the e-mobility shift.
Safety and Service Go Hand-in-Hand
NueGo isn’t just about green technology, it’s also about comfort and reliability. All buses come with air conditioning and passenger-focused amenities, and the company has dedicated passenger lounges in some cities. Punctuality and safety are central pillars of the service, and the training program ensures that frontline staff are ready to meet these high standards.
A Step Toward Smarter Travel
As electric vehicles become more common on Indian roads, NueGo’s training program is setting an example in responsible workforce development. It combines technical skill-building with customer service, supporting a cleaner and more efficient future for intercity transport.
CMV360 Says
This kind of initiative comes across as grounded and well-planned. NueGo is doing more than just running electric buses; it’s preparing a skilled workforce for the EV. As electric buses become more common, it's important that the people operating them truly understand the technology and the responsibility. The mix of technical and soft skill training makes the service feel more dependable.
